Hands Up Sports Academy
Sports, Leadership, and Wellness Program for Children and Teens
Hands Up Sports Academy is more than a sports program — it is a place where children from different backgrounds come together, build friendships, develop leadership skills, and discover their potential through sports.
The program brings together American youth, immigrant families, and Ukrainian refugee children, creating opportunities for connection, inclusion, and mutual understanding. Through handball, non-contact boxing fitness, sports camps, mentoring, leadership development, and family engagement, participants learn that teamwork, respect, and perseverance transcend language, culture, and background.
Many Ukrainian children have experienced displacement, uncertainty, and the challenges of adapting to a new country. Hands Up Sports Academy helps them integrate into American communities while building meaningful relationships with their peers. At the same time, American youth gain opportunities to develop cultural awareness, leadership skills, and a broader understanding of the world around them.
Led by experienced coaches, mentors, and community leaders, the program uses sports as a powerful tool to strengthen confidence, resilience, character, and community.

Relevance
Many young people today face increasing challenges related to social isolation, anxiety, reduced physical activity, bullying, excessive screen time, and limited access to affordable organized sports programs. These challenges can be particularly significant for immigrant and refugee youth who may be adapting to a new environment, language, culture, and community.
Sports have the unique ability to unite children who may speak different languages, come from different cultures, or have experienced very different life circumstances. Through teamwork, shared goals, and positive mentorship, young people learn to support one another, build trust, and develop friendships that strengthen both individuals and communities.
Hands Up Sports Academy addresses these challenges by creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where young people can grow, build positive relationships, develop leadership skills, strengthen family connections, and become active members of their communities.
